Confession #100: It has been 15 days…thanks Chikungunya

This, my friends, is my 100th Confession! I honestly planned on making this one great- inspiring, raw, and beautiful. But alas…this is not going to be one of those blogs. Maybe Confession 101 will be more awesome…

15 days.

That is how long it has been since I have last blogged.

Birthday + Fathers Day + Family Day at the pool

And I apologize. Hopefully my brief status updates on Facebook have sufficed.

A lot has happened in 15 days, most of which have not been super pleasant.

On June 15th we celebrated my birthday, Father’s Day, and Dalencia’s family day all in one. A day as great as this meant a day at the pool. It was rather marvelous and relaxing. Not to mention my sweet hubby found all the fixins for me to make cookies and cream milkshakes for dinner! It wasn’t quite Chick-fil-A, but when you are preggos and live in Haiti, you really can’t complain.

On Jun 16th over half our kids at Emmaus House started showing symptoms of the Chikungunya virus. It was a rather quiet house for a few days.

Sick Nalandson

On June 17th Nalandson started getting sick. Two days later, Hunter was out. And two days later it was me. Fevers, nausea, itchy rashes, and body aches like we have never felt before consumed us for days. It’s the 26th and I just woke up this morning to new rashes all over my legs, arms, and stomach. I mean, seriously! Just go away already!

(To learn more about Chikungunya go HERE.)

On June 23 our teens started their national exams which means the pressure in on!

On June 24 Merly moved to Emmaus House.

And all the while, I have been trying to make plans to leave the country for 2 weeks on July 2nd (which sadly means preparing to leave my littles behind) + prepare for our two visiting teams who will come when we return.

So that is why it has been 15 days since I last blogged. It isn’t that I don’t have anything to share. I actually have tons brewing in my mind right now. But when you, your family, and those you work with are battling a virus that literally means “broken bones” writing isn’t high on the priority list.

Thank you to all who prayed for us and sent us encouraging messages during the past week or two. We are so grateful for you for your love and support.

Despite the red dots all over me (including my earlobes- just wanted to point that out), I am back to normal and will be blogging again shortly!

~ Jillian

  1. Jillian and Hunter, We are thankful to God that all of you are doing better. We were praying for you. I know your Moms and Dads will be so happy to see you both. Take care of yourselves. We think of you everyday.
